Dr. Villarreal is board-certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Management. He completed his residency program at Temple University Hospital and his pain fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University, both located in Philadelphia.
Dr. Villarreal spent a decade (2011-2021) in Assistant Professor roles in the Department of Neurological Surgery at University of Rochester Medical Center. He concentrated his research in the area of neuromodulation where he was involved in several multi-center clinical studies on Spinal Cord Stimulation outcomes and gave several national and international lectures in the field. He is the former Chair of the Special Interest Group in Neuromodulation from the American Society of Regional Anesthesia. He has helped patients manage pain at Rehabilitation Medicine Center of New York and Newark Rehabilitation Center since 2022.
Dr. Villarreal also is an active member of the educational/CME committee for the American Academy of Pain Medicine, among other roles in national pain organizations.
